Juanita was the mother of seven females and two males that she birthed and prayed for each day. One brother died in his thirties and one sister in her early forties. It still left her with seven children who would call her regularly to vent their personal and daily struggles. Juanita had the mother-wit that God grants to some of us. She would listen and then give her advice. They would find a way to let her know that her advice was not what they were looking for because it didn’t agree with the plan they had before picking up the phone. After sometimes many hours of venting and rejection of her wisdom she would just say, “Have you tried Jesus?”
In 2009, Ron from my home town came back into my life after 43 years. He is now my wonderful God fearing husband. A little while after we were reacquainted I shared my mother's story with him when he called me to share what he believed was a vision from the Lord. He told me that every since I shared that story it stayed on his mind each day. He said to me, “Your mother was a powerful woman of wisdom as she killed two birds with one stone when she said those four powerful words. She not only gave you the REAL answer but she figured out how to get you and all your other siblings off of the phone!”
I was only too glad to share in Ron's laughter as I knew it to be true. He said to me what a powerful and simple way to drop the seed of the Good News of Jesus Christ. He said he had a vision of walking across the United States followed by an RV with “Have You Tried Jesus” written on its sides handing out T-shirts with those four powerful words engraved on them.
This was the vision that launched the Have You Tried Jesus Ministry. It is the foundation of continually dropping the seed of Christ to the world just as McDonald’s launched their arches and Nike launched their swish. The goal is to raise money to launch those four powerful words through mass media every day, hour, minute, and every second; to continue to drop this seed and keep the name of Jesus in our minds as a reminder that HE is the answer.
